Summer Sessions
The University of California's summer session courses differ from regular term courses in several ways, including duration, format, and cost. Summer sessions are typically shorter, lasting 6 to 10 weeks, compared to the 10- to 15-week terms during the regular academic year. These accelerated courses allow students to focus intensively on fewer subjects, making it easier to catch up, get ahead, or explore new topics.
Summer courses also often provide more flexibility, with a variety of online, hybrid, and in-person options, and are open to both UC students and visiting learners. However, the cost structure differs; summer sessions are typically fee-based and calculated per unit, and financial aid availability may vary, with some students needing to apply separately for summer aid packages.
